How to select oil filtration system

One of the common questions I am often asked is how to choose the right filter skid for off-line circulating oil filtration. This is one of the most easily overlooked and incomprehensible problems in the industry, causing the company to lose hundreds of thousands of yuan.


Bulk lubricants should not be replaced on schedule, but only on condition. However, before replacement, it is important to consider the possibility of using a filtration system to restore the lubricant to a healthy condition.


Since there is no direct answer to the above questions, I usually first say that one size is not suitable for all questions. A lot of things have to be considered. For example, if you ask the person who sells the oil filter skid, you can expect that he or she will try to push their off the shelf items, which may not be suitable for your application.


Don't blindly trust marketers. Learn more about the product specifications for you. Brochures distributed by filter skid suppliers often lack technical specifications, which is critical to selecting the right system for your application.


I've seen companies spend thousands of dollars on filters that can't be used for a particular purpose or are too expensive to operate due to frequent cartridge changes. After a few months of use, these skateboards are often shelved.


Varnish removal technology

When selecting an oil filter skid, you must be aware of the different varnish removal techniques. These technologies can be divided into two categories: particulate removal filters and dissolved decomposition products removal technologies.


Remember that varnish is the result of the accumulation of dissolved decomposition products above the saturation point. Since the key to prevent varnish from saturating is to prevent the varnish from being saturated, only the varnish removal technology which removes the dissolved oxidation products and returns the oil to the unsaturated state can actually prevent the varnish.

When the varnish is dissolved in the oil, it is important to determine whether the antiskid device proposed is effective during normal operation. Some systems use coolers at the inlet to force dissolved varnish precursors out of the solution before they pass through the filter. These types of systems operate only above the saturation point and cannot pick up the deposited varnish from the system.

Does the proposed skid remove the dissolved varnish at the oil temperature of the reservoir? In the Middle East, I usually have gas turbine oil temperatures of 165-169 degrees Fahrenheit at summer peak. Soluble and insoluble varnish content, another important consideration is whether the system can remove the soluble and insoluble varnish content from the oil. Many varnish removal devices on the market can only remove the insoluble varnish content, but in fact, the dissolved varnish content can damage the machine. Therefore, the system you choose should be able to remove both soluble and insoluble varnish content.

What is the flow rate of the filtration system? Systems that remove the dissolved varnish content from the oil should cycle the entire reservoir volume more than once a day for effective cleaning.


Some varnish removal systems may take 30-60 days to cycle the reservoir volume once. When the traffic is insufficient, don't persuade to buy a system that costs thousands of yuan. Size matters.


Cost of ownership

What is the cost of ownership of the system over its life cycle? For a varnish removal system, the cost of ownership includes the initial cost of the system, the service life of maintenance and consumables. The latter can be calculated by the volume of the filter element removed by the dissolved varnish.


You may find that some systems can run five times as much as others. Similarly, the volume of the varnish removal filter also determines the flow rate of the system, so attention must be paid to the size of the filter.


Technical support

Can anti skid suppliers provide technical support in a short time, such as 48-72 hours? What experience and qualifications does the technical support team have to solve the problem? I often see end users having difficulty getting support from their sliding vendors or even getting them to the site in time. Time is money.


When choosing the next oil filtration system, be sure to keep all these considerations in mind, and remember that one size is not for everyone. Recommended filter system: oil filter
